Travelling with a baby on the bus? Follow these tips!

It’s definitely possible to bring your baby along for a bus ride! Most pediatricians allow babies to travel by bus from their third month of life. It’s important to note that unlike private vehicles, there is no specific regulation for transporting babies on buses. Generally, babies and children up to four years old can travel in the lap of their parent or legal guardian. In this case, since the child is not taking up a seat, you don’t need to pay for a ticket.

First Step: Identification

 
Babies who are just a few months old typically don’t have a passport or ID card. In this case, present the original birth certificate or a certified copy, alongside the personal documents of the legal parents/guardians. If you’re travelling with relatives or friends, the responsible parties must also submit an authorization from the parents or legal guardians in addition to the baby’s.

Second Step: Meet the Baby’s Needs

 
Before you travel, make sure you know the average number of diapers you’ll need, and prepare a suitcase with other items you’ll need during the trip, such as bottles, baby food, clothes for different temperatures (remember that air conditioning on buses can be a bit unpredictable). Don’t forget to visit the pediatrician before the trip to check which medications you must bring as well.

Third step: Security During the Trip

 
Babies up to six months can easily travel in their parent’s lap, so there’s no need to buy an extra seat. In case you start to get a bit tired carrying the baby throughout the trip, we recommend using a baby sling for added support. Try to sit in an aisle seat to get out more easily and remember to leave the baby outside of the seat belt, because in case of sudden braking, your own weight could harm the baby
