FlixBus Extends Seat Reservation to Most Routes

About a year ago, FlixBus introduced the seat reservation to the great delight of many passengers. After a successful pilot project amongst its European markets, the feature was implemented throughout the company, and has made its way overseas when FlixBus expanded to the United States.

Families and larger groups were particularly happy about the new service, which was initially affected by several teething troubles. Among other things, customers complained that reserved seats were not clearly marked and were therefore often already occupied, or that the booked seat reservation was canceled spontaneously. These shortcomings now seem to have been resolved, as the bus company now offers the popular service on almost all lines – about half a year later than planned.

If you would like to reserve your seat in advance, you have the choice between three different categories. The panoramic seats are at the front of the bus, offering better views and more legroom. Where double-decker buses are used, four-seater seats around a table can also be reserved. The third category is the classic seat.

If the reservation of a desired seat is available on the selected connection, the option will be displayed on the FlixBus page after entering the passenger data during online booking.

On short and medium routes, less than 310 miles, the classic seat costs $1.49, a table seat costs $2.59, and the panoramic seat costs $4.99. Reservation prices are a bit higher for long hauls with classic seats costing $2.99, table seats costing $4.99, and panoramic seats costing $7.99. Once a trip has been booked, the seat reservation cannot be added later. However, it is possible to cancel a seat reservation.

One change that’s resulted from this new service is that all seats can be reserved on some rides, so random seats will be noted on some tickets in the future. This has the advantage that passengers no longer have to worry about accidently occupying reserved seats.

Seat reservation can now be added both when booking online or via the FlixBus app. Even if you prefer to book your ticket offline in one of the FlixBus partner shops, you can make use of the seat reservation feature if available.

Whether or not you can reserve your seat depends on which bus company you plan to travel with. For instance, if you’ve booked with FlixBus, you should have the option to choose your seat.
